Rest of Day 4 and Day 5

(Posted by Eric Hausler)

Hello friends...

It is quiet now at Kekette's house, as the group is pretty tired after a long day and most are ready for bed. Our Sunday ended well yesterday as Kekette walked us to some nearby houses (which were really just wooden shacks) where we sang, read Scripture, prayed with the person or family, and gave them a bag of rice, beans and oil.

Daniel and a dear Haitian woman we visited.

In the evening, we went to another Haitian church to meet with one of their youth small groups.  When we arrived, they were in the midst of a study, so we waited outside and had a chance to hear the women's choir practice.  It was beautiful!  We sang a song for them and they sang a couple of songs for us.

We were blessed!
We sang for them...and they sang for us.
Soon the youth group welcomed us and our group members each shared a what their favorite Bible promise was and why.

A time of mutual encouragement with High School small group.
On the way home we stopped at Sunset Beach to take a brief walk as the sun was setting behind the clouds.  When we arrived back at the house we then had a birthday celebration with Kekette, complete with a cake that Donna and some of the girls made.

Sunset beach walk...last night.

Monday morning started off with our loading up in Pastor Edvard's church van and heading to the government recreation center which we reserved and rented for two hours, today, tomorrow and Wednesday, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.  We invited youth from several different Haitian churches, and we ended up with a nice group of Haitian youth who came and joined us to play.  We began the soccer time with prayer and ended with an invitation to hear us on Creole Radio today at 1:00 PM.

Soccer is a great way to build cross cultural bridges.

Amira is not afraid to take on the guys!

Time for a group photo.
On the radio today, we sang some songs and each team member talked about which is their favorite miracle in the Bible and why...that is, what it is that God teaches about Himself in that miracle.

Erin is ready to talk about her favorite miracle in the Bible for all the world to hear.

Bekah is talking about God's power while Mark and Erin look on.
After our time on the radio, we took a quick swim in a nearby cove, and once we were back at Kekette's house we did some more home visits--taking God's promises and diaconal gifts of rice and beans. As you see in the photos below:

Gerard lives in a little one-room shack.  He belongs to a cult,
so we shared the Gospel with him and gave him a bag of rice, beans and oil.
Rosemène at the door of her wooden, plywood, one-room home.
She asked us to pray that God would bring her a husband to care for her
and her two daughters.  Her house is not in "code" and could be torn down any day.

Tonight we had a light supper and spent the evening at a nearby Haitian worship service.  Our team was introduced and we sang the song, "Jesus Draw Me" after the content was translated. The service was quite a cross-cultural experience!  As in Haiti, when a church acquires a sound system, it seems the tendency is to crank the volume as LOUD as possible.  Some of our youth had such head-aches they had to step out the door for a break.

Our youth are truly learning what it is to serve the Lord with love in a new cultural context. Please pray for our relationship building with the Haitian youth during the soccer game, our home visits, and our testimonies on the radio tomorrow. Each member of the team will talk about how they came to know the Lord Jesus.  May God use us for his honor and to spread his fame!

Thankful for God's mercy,
Eric Hausler, Pastor
